Free WhatsApp QR code generator

Turn one scan into a live conversation

A WhatsApp QR code generator converts your phone number and an optional message into a single scannable code. Instead of asking customers to save your number, open WhatsApp, and type out a message, you give them a code that does all of it in one tap. They scan, WhatsApp opens with a chat already addressed to you. And often with a pre-written message waiting. So all they have to do is press send. QRHub's WhatsApp tool is 100% free, needs no account, and is ready to use the moment you generate it.

For any business that runs on chat. Restaurants taking orders, shops answering product questions, service providers booking appointments, or support teams fielding issues. A click-to-chat WhatsApp code removes the biggest barrier to that first message. It works natively on iPhone and Android, no app beyond WhatsApp is required, and creating one takes under a minute with no watermark and no usage limits.

What is a WhatsApp QR code and how does it work?

A WhatsApp QR code encodes a click-to-chat link: the official wa.me format that WhatsApp supports. The link carries your phone number in international format and, optionally, a URL-encoded message. You do not need to know that syntax; QRHub builds the correct link from the simple form above and turns it into a scannable code.

When a customer scans the code with their phone camera, the device recognizes the link and opens WhatsApp directly to a chat with your number. If you added a message, it appears pre-filled in the compose box. There is no captive portal, no need to save a contact, and no chance of dialing the wrong number. This is why WhatsApp QR codes have become a favorite conversion tool for local businesses: they shorten the path from “interested” to “in a conversation” to a single tap.

How to create a WhatsApp QR code in 4 steps

The whole process takes less than a minute. Fill in the form at the top of this page, then follow these steps.

01

Enter your number

Type your WhatsApp number in full international format, e.g. +14155550123.

02

Add a message

Optionally pre-fill a message like “Hi, I'd like to order” to lower the barrier.

03

Generate the code

Click Generate and customize the colors to match your brand.

04

Download & share

Export PNG, SVG, PDF, JPEG, or WebP and add it to print or digital touchpoints.

Why use a WhatsApp QR code?

A click-to-chat code is one of the fastest ways to turn attention into a real conversation. Here is what you gain.

Instant conversations

One scan opens a chat with a pre-filled message. No typing your number or searching for you first.

No contact saving

Customers reach you without adding your number to their phone, removing a major point of friction.

More orders & leads

Turn packaging, print, and storefronts into direct enquiry channels that drive real conversations.

Faster support

Route questions straight into WhatsApp where your team already works, cutting response time.

Where WhatsApp QR codes shine

From storefronts to social posts, a scan-to-chat code fits anywhere a customer might want to reach you.

Restaurants & takeaway

Let diners message a pre-filled takeout or reservation request from the table or storefront.

Retail & local shops

Add the code to receipts and shelves so shoppers ask about stock, sizes, or prices instantly.

Customer support

Print it on packaging and manuals so buyers reach help without hunting for a number.

Marketing & ads

Drive posters, flyers, and social posts straight into a chat with a tracked call to action.

Bookings & services

Salons, clinics, and freelancers take appointment requests with one scan.

Business cards

Swap a printed number for a code that opens a ready-to-send introduction message.

Get the phone number format right

The most common reason a WhatsApp code fails is an incorrectly formatted number. Follow these rules.

  • Use the country code: Always include it, e.g. +1 for the US, +91 for India, +44 for the UK.
  • No spaces or dashes: Enter digits only after the +, like +14155550123.
  • Drop leading zeros: Remove the trunk “0” some countries use for domestic dialing.
  • Match the account: The number must be the one registered to your WhatsApp.

Best practices for higher response

Small tweaks make the difference between a scan and a real chat.

  • Write a pre-filled message that starts the conversation for them.
  • Add a clear call to action next to the code: “Scan to chat with us.”
  • Use a WhatsApp Business account for quick replies and away messages.
  • Print at high contrast and at least 2×2 cm so it scans reliably.
  • Scan-test the code on iPhone and Android before printing.
  • Reply fast. Response speed strongly affects conversion.

WhatsApp's built-in QR vs a QRHub chat code

WhatsApp does offer its own QR code, but it serves a different purpose: scanning it simply adds you to someone's contact list. It does not open a conversation, and it cannot carry a pre-written message. For personal networking that is fine, but for a business it leaves the hardest step. Actually starting the chat. Up to the customer.

A QRHub WhatsApp code takes the opposite approach. It opens a live chat window addressed to you, optionally with a message already in the box, so the customer only has to press send. That single difference is why click-to-chat codes convert so much better on packaging, receipts, storefronts, and ads. Combine one with a website or vCard QR to cover every way a customer might want to reach you.

WhatsApp QR code: frequently asked questions

Is the WhatsApp QR code generator free?

Yes. QRHub's WhatsApp QR code generator is completely free with no signup, no watermark, and no limit on how many codes you create. Generate a code, customize the colors, and download it in the format you need. All at no cost.

How does a WhatsApp QR code work?

The code encodes a wa.me click-to-chat link that includes your phone number and an optional pre-written message. When someone scans it with their camera, WhatsApp opens a chat with you already loaded. They just press send. There is no need to save your number as a contact first.

What format should the phone number be in?

Always use the full international format including the country code, with no spaces, dashes, or brackets. For example, a US number would look like +14155550123 and an Indian number like +919812345678. The leading + is recommended for reliable results across devices.

Can I add a pre-filled message?

Yes. Add an optional message such as “Hi, I'd like to place an order” or “I need help with my booking.” The text appears in the chat box when the customer opens WhatsApp, lowering the barrier to that first message and making your intent clear.

How is this different from WhatsApp's built-in QR code?

WhatsApp's own QR code adds you to someone's contact list. It does not start a conversation. QRHub's WhatsApp QR code opens a live chat window with an optional message ready to send, which is far more actionable for businesses that want instant enquiries.

Do I need a WhatsApp Business account?

No. The code works with any personal or business WhatsApp number. That said, a WhatsApp Business account adds helpful features like quick replies, away messages, catalogs, and labels. Useful if you handle a high volume of customer chats.

Can I customize the colors of the WhatsApp QR code?

Yes. After generating, use the customization panel to change the foreground and background colors or set a transparent background so the code fits your branded materials. Always scan-test a customized code before printing to confirm it still reads reliably.

Where should I place the WhatsApp QR code?

Anywhere customers make decisions: storefront windows, product packaging, receipts, business cards, flyers, table tents, and social media graphics. Put it where someone is most likely to have a question or want to buy.
