Free UPI payment QR code generator

Turn one scan into a UPI payment

A UPI QR code generator converts your UPI ID into a scannable payment code. Instead of spelling out shop@okhdfcbank over the counter. Or waiting for customers to type it wrong. You give them a code that opens PhonePe, Google Pay, Paytm, or any UPI app with your details ready. They scan, confirm, and they have paid. QRHub's UPI tool is 100% free, requires no account, and is ready to print the moment you generate it.

Whether you run a kirana store, café, freelance practice, or event stall, a scan-to-pay UPI code speeds up checkout without a card machine. It works across major UPI apps, supports an optional payee name and fixed amount in INR, and takes under a minute to create with no watermark and no usage limits.

What is a UPI QR code and how does it work?

A UPI QR code encodes a payment deep link in the standard upi://pay format. Including your VPA (UPI ID), optional payee name, optional amount, and currency set to INR. When scanned, a UPI app recognizes the link and opens the pay screen. The customer reviews the details and authorizes the transfer with their UPI PIN.

QRHub builds this link from the UPI ID, name, and amount you enter above. Leave amount blank for flexible payments; fill it in for a fixed price. This makes UPI QR codes effective on counter stands, invoices, menus, packaging, and event tickets. Anywhere cashless India payments should start with a scan.

Get your UPI details right

A few details ensure money lands in the correct account.

  • Exact VPA: copy your UPI ID from your bank or UPI app; do not guess the handle.
  • Payee name: optional but builds trust when it matches your shop or brand.
  • Fixed amount: use for priced items; leave blank for tips and donations.
  • Test payment: send ₹1 from another account before printing for customers.

Best practices for payment QR codes

A few details keep your code clear and trustworthy at the counter.

  • Add a clear call to action: “Scan to pay via UPI.”
  • Print at high contrast and at least 3×3 cm for counter stands.
  • Show your business name next to the code for trust.
  • Scan-test with PhonePe, GPay, and Paytm before mass printing.
  • Laminate or frame codes that stay on the counter all day.
  • Avoid busy backgrounds or patterns behind the code.

UPI QR vs Bitcoin or coupon codes

A UPI QR code collects INR payments through India's UPI network. A Bitcoin QR code encodes a crypto wallet address for BTC payments. A coupon QR code shares a promo code rather than collecting money. A menu QR code opens a digital menu. Pair it with UPI for scan-to-order and scan-to-pay.

Many shops print UPI next to WiFi and menu codes for a complete guest experience. Browse the full QRHub tools directory to cover every payment and customer touchpoint.

UPI QR code: frequently asked questions

Is the UPI QR code generator free?

Yes. QRHub's UPI QR code generator is completely free with no signup, no watermark, and no limit on how many codes you create. Generate a code, customize the colors, and download it in the format you need. All at no cost.

How does a UPI payment QR code work?

The code encodes a standard upi://pay link with your UPI ID, optional payee name, and optional amount. When someone scans it with PhonePe, Google Pay, Paytm, or another UPI app, the payment screen opens pre-filled. They confirm and pay.

What UPI ID format should I use?

Enter your VPA exactly as registered. For example name@okhdfcbank, business@ybl, or shop@paytm. Double-check spelling; a wrong ID sends money to the wrong account.

Can I set a fixed amount?

Yes. Fill the Amount (INR) field to lock the payment value. Leave it empty if you want customers to enter any amount themselves. Useful for donations or tips.

Which apps can scan a UPI QR code?

Any UPI-enabled app that supports the standard UPI QR / deep-link format. Including PhonePe, Google Pay, Paytm, BHIM, and most bank UPI apps. Built-in phone cameras may also open the payment flow when a UPI app is installed.

Can I customize the colors of the UPI QR code?

Yes. After generating, use the customization panel to change the foreground and background colors or set a transparent background so the code fits your counter stand or branding. Always scan-test before printing.

Is this the same as a bank-issued merchant QR?

QRHub creates a static UPI payment QR from the details you enter. It works for collecting payments to your UPI ID. Formal merchant settlement, GST invoices, and PSP dashboards still come from your bank or payment provider.

Where should I place a UPI QR code?

Counter stands, invoices, receipts, menus, packaging, event tickets, and WhatsApp status or social posts. Add a label like “Scan to pay via UPI.”
