Free location QR code generator

Turn one scan into turn-by-turn directions

A location QR code generator converts GPS coordinates into a single scannable code. Instead of asking someone to type a street address, search a vague landmark, or copy latitude and longitude by hand, you give them a code that opens the exact spot in their maps app. They scan, tap Navigate, and they are on their way. QRHub's location tool is 100% free, requires no account, and is ready to print or share the moment you generate it.

Whether you mark a hiking trailhead, guide guests to an event entrance, pin a property for open houses, or share a remote delivery drop point, a scan-to-navigate location code removes friction from offline wayfinding. It works on iPhone and Android, uses the standard geo: format, and takes under a minute to create with no watermark and no usage limits.

What is a location QR code and how does it work?

A location QR code encodes GPS coordinates in the geo:latitude, longitude format. For example geo:28.6139,77.2090. When scanned, the phone's camera app recognizes the geo URI and opens it in the default maps application. The viewer sees a pin at the exact coordinates. No manual entry required.

QRHub builds this link from the latitude and longitude you enter in the form above. Use decimal degrees for the most reliable result. This makes location QR codes effective on trail markers, event signage, real estate boards, park maps, and outdoor installations | anywhere a street address is missing, unclear, or less precise than a GPS pin.

How to create a location QR code in 4 steps

The whole process takes less than a minute. Fill in the form at the top of this page, then follow these steps.

01

Get coordinates

In Google Maps → right-click the spot → copy latitude and longitude.

02

Enter in the form

Paste decimal degrees into the latitude and longitude fields above.

03

Generate the code

Click Generate and customize colors to match your brand.

04

Download & share

Export PNG, SVG, PDF, JPEG, or WebP and add it to signage or print.

Why use a location QR code?

A scan-to-navigate code is one of the fastest ways to get people to an exact spot. Here is what you gain.

Instant navigation

One scan opens coordinates in maps. No typing addresses or GPS numbers.

Pinpoint accuracy

Share an exact spot. A trailhead, gate, parking bay, or meeting point.

Works on any phone

geo: links open in Apple Maps, Google Maps, and other navigation apps.

On-brand codes

Customize colors and download print-ready PNG, SVG, or PDF files.

Where location QR codes shine

From mountain trails to city events, a scan-to-navigate code fits anywhere an exact pin matters more than a street address.

Trails & outdoor sites

Trailheads, viewpoints, and campsites marked with scannable coordinates.

Events & venues

Posters and tickets pointing to the exact entrance or parking area.

Real estate

Yard signs that open the property pin for open-house visitors.

Delivery & logistics

Drop-off points, loading bays, and remote site access pins.

Parks & farms

Visitor maps and farm stands with coordinates for hard-to-find spots.

Job sites

Site gates and field offices where street addresses are unclear.

Get your coordinates right

A few details ensure scanners land on the correct spot.

  • Decimal degrees: use 28.6139, not 28°36'50"N or DMS format.
  • Negative values: south latitude and west longitude use minus signs (e.g. -33.8688).
  • Drop the pin: in Google Maps, place the pin exactly where you want visitors to arrive.
  • Google Maps link: for a Google-specific URL instead, try the Google Maps QR generator.

Best practices for scannable codes

A few details keep your code fast and reliable to scan outdoors.

  • Add a clear call to action: “Scan for directions.”
  • Print at high contrast and at least 2×2 cm for close range.
  • Weatherproof signage for trails and outdoor installations.
  • Scan-test on iPhone and Android before mass printing.
  • Include a backup address or landmark name near the code.
  • Avoid busy backgrounds or patterns behind the code.

Location QR vs Google Maps or event codes

A location QR code uses the geo: standard and opens coordinates in whatever maps app the user prefers. Apple Maps, Google Maps, Waze, and others. A Google Maps QR code opens a specific Google Maps web link, which is useful when you want every scanner to land in Google Maps with reviews and Street View.

Location QR code: frequently asked questions

Is the location QR code generator free?

Yes. QRHub's location QR code generator is completely free with no signup, no watermark, and no limit on how many codes you create. Generate a code, customize the colors, and download it in the format you need. All at no cost.

How does a location QR code work?

The code encodes GPS coordinates in the standard geo: URI format. When someone scans it with their camera, their phone opens the coordinates in the default maps app so they can navigate without typing latitude and longitude.

How do I find latitude and longitude?

In Google Maps, right-click a point on the map and copy the coordinates, or tap and hold on mobile to see the lat/long values. Paste the latitude and longitude into the generator form above.

What coordinate format should I use?

Use decimal degrees. For example, 28.6139 for latitude and 77.2090 for longitude. Do not include degree symbols or compass letters; enter negative values for south latitude or west longitude.

Do people need a special app to scan it?

No. Modern iPhones and most Android phones read QR codes from the built-in camera app. The scan opens the geo: link, which launches Apple Maps, Google Maps, or another installed navigation app.

Can I customize the colors of the location QR code?

Yes. After generating, use the customization panel to change the foreground and background colors or set a transparent background so the code fits your branded materials. Always scan-test a customized code before printing to confirm it still reads reliably.

How is this different from a Google Maps QR code?

A location QR code uses the geo: standard and opens coordinates in the user's default maps app. A Google Maps QR code opens a specific Google Maps web URL. Both work well; choose based on whether you want app-neutral navigation or a Google Maps link.

Where should I place a location QR code?

Trail markers, event venue entrances, real estate signs, park signage, farm stands, delivery drop points, and outdoor installations. Add a label like “Scan for directions.”
